Integrative Therapy in Vets Office

By Bennie Kuehnle of The Animal Institute

INTEGRATIVE THERAPY IN THE VETERINARIAN'S OFFICE

All healing modalities can easily be integrated into conventional healthcare. Training programs provide a preventative and maintenance model by keeping us in touch with changes and current technologies.

Training for veterinary offices is crucial as they take their place in the new Integrative Health model. Veterinary staff must be aware that more of their clients and patients are seeking animal health care providers that are willing for the owners to take a more active role in the treatment and health choices of their animals. Veterinarians and their staff who do not offer or practice any alternative services, should at least be aware of the need for a basic knowledge of terminology and have a practical level of communication with their clients on the subject. It is not necessary to be fluent in Alternative and Holistic Therapy. It is, however, extremely crucial to know where to go for information and how to answer questions.

Integration of the Scientific and holistic communities is theh future of healthcare. We never stop learning because the medical and healthcare world is always evolving and changing. This carries great responsibility, but also gives incredible rewards when we assume the responsibility of our education, the choices we make and the wise use of the information we possess.

REMEMBER, misinformation can compromise health and jeopardize our freedom to participate in the healthcare industry. Therefore, it is crucial that we create partnerships based on trust and good business and spiritual priniciples.

Belief about health living, side effects of unhealthy activity, lifestyle, behavior and spiritual priniciples that maintain, prevent and restore balance are an integral part of animal werfare.

As a practitioner, when a client comes to me with an animal that has a problem outside the range of a normal session of bodywork or outside my specific practice, I provide my clients with a veterinarian referral and coordinate with that veterinarian in their diagnosis. When a veterinarian refers a client to The Animal Institute of Holistic Healthâ„¢, we work closely to make sure the therapy is within the guidelines of any treatment the veterinarian has suggested.

Many owners have been dissatisfied or confused with existing medical treatment and have questions about their options. Our goal in Integrative Therapy is to be able to use this broader scope of options, and strive toward balance for the greater good of the animal. The goal of Integrative Therapy is to use your entire team.
